In his Symphonie fantastique, the young Hector Berlioz bared his soul in music, torturing himself with passion — some might say obsession — for his beloved. Through tender love scenes, a thrilling march to the scaffold, and an opium-induced nightmare, Berlioz’s riveting masterpiece is captured by The Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst in this new release, recorded live at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Concert Hall at Severance Music Center in May 2024.
Franz Welser-Möst (born 16 August 1960 in Linz) is an Austrian conductor. He has served as the principal conductor of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra (1986-1991) and the London Philharmonic Orchestra (1990-1996), Generalmusikdirektor of the Zürich Opera House (2005-2008) and the Vienna State Opera (2010-2014), and is currently music director of the Cleveland Orchestra (since 2002).
