Caravelli (born Claude Vasori, 1930–2019) was a French orchestra leader, composer, and arranger known for his elegant orchestral sound. Trained at the Paris Conservatoire, he began touring as a pianist at 20 and became a conductor at 26. Adopting the name “Caravelli” in 1956, he formed his orchestra in 1959 and achieved international success with recordings for Versailles and later Columbia Records. He collaborated with artists like Maurice Chevalier and Charles Trenet, and his song “Laisse moi le temps” was famously recorded by Frank Sinatra. Especially popular in Japan, Caravelli continued recording and touring globally until the 2000s.
