The third volume of the Simply Mozart series concludes with Mozart’s 39th Symphony, alongside the overture to Così fan tutte and the Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola. Julien Chauvin describes the overture as “a statement of the opera in miniature,” while the Sinfonia Concertante, composed after Mozart’s second Paris trip, reflects the contemporary Parisian vogue of multiple soloists dialoguing with the orchestra. Chauvin highlights the work’s second movement as one of Mozart’s most poignant, featuring an expressive interplay between the violin and the viola, performed here by Amihai Grosz, who has previously recorded two albums for Alpha Classics.

Julien Chauvin, born in 1979 in Fontainebleau, was inspired early by Baroque music and historically informed performance, leading him to study at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In 2015, he founded Le Concert de la Loge and also performs with the Quatuor Cambini-Paris, established in 2007. He has prepared and conducted operas by Lemoyne, Isouard, Haydn, Mozart, and Sacchini, and guest-conducted ensembles including the Esterházy Hofkapelle, Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, and Les Violons du Roy. Chauvin’s acclaimed recordings of Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Berlioz have earned awards such as Diapason d’or, Choc de Classica, and recognition from Gramophone.
