Mao Fujita, silver medallist in the 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition, released an ambitious album in autumn 2024 on Sony Classical featuring 72 preludes by Chopin, Scriabin and Akio Yashiro. As a companion to that project, he has now recorded six additional preludes by Ravel, Rachmaninov, Mompou, Franck, Busoni and Alkan. Initially issued separately over recent months, these pieces will be brought together in a single EP released on November 28, extending Fujita’s exploration of the prelude tradition and highlighting his versatility across a wide range of styles and composers.

Mao Fujita, born in Tokyo in 1998, gained international attention after sweeping prizes at the 2017 Clara Haskil Competition and earning the Silver Medal at the 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition. A prodigy who began piano at three, he went on to win major youth competitions worldwide and now studies with Kirill Gerstein in Berlin. Fujita has performed with leading conductors and top orchestras, and is an active chamber musician collaborating with many distinguished artists. An exclusive Sony Classical artist, he earned acclaim for his 2022 Mozart sonata cycle and followed it with the ambitious 2024 release 72 Preludes, showcasing works by Chopin, Scriabin, and Yashiro.
