Matthias Höfs is a renowned German trumpeter who performed and then recorded concertos by Fazıl Say and Wolf Kerschek during his artist residency with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester in Munich. Both concertos were originally composed for him. Fazıl Say is a prominent contemporary pianist and composer whose works reach a broad international audience. Wolf Kerschek is a Hamburg-based composer, arranger, conductor, jazz musician, and professor of jazz theory, composition, and film music; his concerto The Four Elements receives its world premiere recording on this album on this release.

Matthias Höfs is a German trumpet soloist known for his technical virtuosity, stylistic versatility, and influential work in expanding the trumpet repertoire. Born in Lübeck in 1965, he began playing the trumpet at an early age and later studied at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre and the Karajan Academy. At just 18, he became principal trumpet of the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg, a position he held for sixteen years while also performing internationally as a member of German Brass, with whom he has achieved global recognition and an ECHO Klassik Awards distinction. Since 2000, he has served as professor at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre, in addition to maintaining an active solo career and collaborating closely with contemporary composers to broaden the expressive possibilities of the trumpet.
