Florian Kohlscheen and Nico Graz bring together their instruments, guitar and bandoneon, on their debut album La vida breve, offering impressive insights into the sound world of Spanish and South American concert music. Their program features a selection of compositions from the late 19th and early 20th centuries (by Isaac Albéniz, Manuel de Falla, Heitor Villa-Lobos, among others) as well as works by contemporary composers such as Marco Pereira, Egberto Gismonti, and Quique Sinesi.

The combination of guitar and bandoneon plays a crucial role in both Argentinian tango and the music of Astor Piazzolla. However, this instrumentation is virtually unknown in the music of Spain and South America. Since there are no duets for these instruments outside of tango, the program draws on the extensive repertoire of classical guitar. All pieces have been arranged by Nico Graz and Florian Kohlscheen for guitar and bandoneon, and are first recordings in this arrangement.

With their program La vida breve, the musicians dedicate themselves to the concert music of Spain and South America. The album includes works by three Spanish composers – Manuel de Falla, Isaac Albéniz, and Enrique Granados – as well as five South American composers: Quique Sinesi (Argentina), Agustín Barrios Mangoré (Paraguay), Egberto Gismonti (Brazil), Heitor Villa-Lobos (Brazil), and Marco Pereira (Brazil).
