The album ‘Flute Sonatas & Adagio’, which flutist Anna Reichhold recorded together with Agnieszka Skorupa on the harpsichord, invites you on a special musical journey into the Baroque era. The album features works by Johann Joachim Quantz (1697-1773), who is not only regarded as one of the most important flute virtuosos of his time, but also made a name for himself as a court composer and flute teacher to Frederick the Great.

The works are presented authentically on replicas of historical instruments and in high-resolution audio quality. His extensive oeuvre includes around 200 sonatas, 300 concertos and dozens of chamber music works.

The Hamburg-born flautist Anna Reichhold and Agnieszka Skorupa on the harpsichord bring some of these to life on their album ‘Flute Sonatas & Adagio’ - in a refreshing interpretation that also comes surprisingly close to the historical performance practice of the Baroque period at the court of Frederick the Great. For the recordings, Anna Reichhold used a faithful reproduction of a transverse flute developed by Quantz, employing authentic baroque playing techniques such as articulation and ornamentation.

In addition, both musicians used the manuscripts of the copyist manuscripts owned by Frederick II, which are in the special collection of the music department of the Staatsbibliothek-Preußischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin. This brings the performance of the compositions fascinatingly close to the ‘Empfindsamer Stil’, which enjoyed great popularity at the time. The fact that the listener feels acoustically transported back to a concert at the Potsdamer Hof is also due to the special recording process used to produce the album: This is because the Ultra Authentic Audio Recording developed by friends of green sonic was used.
