Following acclaimed recordings of Bach and Walther, violinist Bojan Čičić now explores Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber’s 1681 Sonatas, a landmark in 17th-century violin music. These works, known for their unorthodox tunings, daring harmonies, and expressive depth, push the boundaries of the violin’s capabilities. Demanding both technical mastery and emotional sensitivity, Biber’s sonatas blend intricate counterpoint, improvisatory flair, and devotional intensity. Performing with his Illyria Consort, Čičić brings clarity, nuance, and theatrical insight to this complete recording, revealing the sonatas’ rich layers of intellect and emotion with his distinctive artistry.
