Mandolinist Avi Avital's EP Iberia explores the rich musical heritage of the Iberian Peninsula and is the second in a trio of themed releases leading up to his album Song of the Birds. Performing with his newly formed Between Worlds Ensemble, Avital blends classical and folk traditions, highlighting regional sounds with vivid detail. Each project in the series focuses on a specific area—Iberia, Southern Italy, and the Black Sea—featuring works by classical composers alongside the folk music that influenced them. Guest vocalists and instrumentalists from the folk tradition join the ensemble, creating a vibrant, boundary-crossing musical experience.

Israeli mandolinist Avi Avital, born in 1978 in Beersheba, began playing mandolin at eight and trained under Simcha Nathanson. After studying in Jerusalem and Padua, he developed a unique style blending classical with genres like jazz, klezmer, and world music. Avital gained prominence by winning the Aviv Competition in 2007 and debuting at top global venues. A Grammy nominee in 2010, he signed with Deutsche Grammophon, releasing acclaimed albums like Between Worlds, Vivaldi, and Art of the Mandolin. His latest, Concertos, features Il Giardino Armonico. Avital continues to tour internationally, pushing boundaries of mandolin repertoire and performance.
