Alpha Classics launches its Baroque Stories series spotlighting young early music talents with the debut album of French harpsichordist Louise Acabo, acclaimed competition winner based in Paris and Basel. She dedicates her first recording to Jacques Champion de Chambonnières (c.1601–1672), pioneer of French harpsichord music and author of over 150 pieces, whose expressive, vocal-like writing demands nuance and sensitivity. Though Chambonnières never left France, his influence spread abroad, especially to England. Acabo presents a personal selection of his works interwoven with pieces by Locke, Preston, and Bryne, reflecting both the intimate poetry and cross-cultural reach of Chambonnières’ artistry.
Praised by El País as “the biggest and best surprise” of the Utrecht Early Music Festival, French harpsichordist Louise Acabo has emerged as a leading young soloist and continuo player. Beginning harpsichord at seven with Aline Zylberajch, she later studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Jörg-Andras Bötticher and Francesco Corti, winning the Concours Corneille at eighteen and prizes at major competitions in Leipzig and Milan. A double Master’s graduate, she also earned a concert diploma in Paris. Acabo performs with ensembles including Le Concert de la Loge, Pygmalion, and La Chapelle harmonique, and co-founded The Banshies in 2022. A frequent festival soloist, she combines performance with research, notably on French harpsichord technique, while also exploring organ and piano repertoire.
