Violinist Stella Chen releases her new album Beethoven & Barber: Violin Concertos on Platoon Records, pairing Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major with Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto. Chen is joined by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields under the direction of Jean-Jacques Kantorow. Dedicated to the late producer and engineer Adam Abeshouse, a close collaborator on her debut album, the recording brings together two works written more than a century apart yet united by their lyrical beauty and expressive intimacy. Chen’s interpretations emphasize the shared human depth and poetic sensitivity that link these contrasting masterpieces.

Stella Chen (b. 1992) is an award-winning American violinist acclaimed for her expressive artistry and international presence. A graduate of Harvard University, the Juilliard School, and the New England Conservatory, she studied with leading pedagogues including Itzhak Perlman and Mihaela Martin. Chen won First Prize at the 2019 Queen Elisabeth Competition and has since received major honors including the Avery Fisher Career Grant and Gramophone’s Young Artist of the Year. She performs widely as a soloist and chamber musician with leading orchestras and at major international venues and festivals. Chen plays the 1720 “General Kyd” Stradivarius.
