For his second recital, Georgian pianist Giorgi Gigashvili turns to Prokofiev, a composer central to his artistic development over the past decade. Centered on the composer’s “War Sonatas,” the album explores works of extreme intensity and physicality, which Gigashvili describes as musical battles demanding total commitment. Titled With all my breath and all my blood, the recording reflects both a deeply personal artistic statement and the pianist’s emotional response to his country’s recent history. Joined by violinist Lisa Batiashvili, Gigashvili also presents a transcription from Romeo and Juliet and a new tribute to Giya Kancheli by Josef Bardanashvili.

Born in Tbilisi in 2000, Georgian pianist Giorgi Gigashvili has forged a distinctive artistic path combining classical performance with folk, electronic, and experimental music. Initially uninterested in a conventional piano career, he gained early public recognition by winning the Georgian edition of The Voice at age thirteen. Trained at the Paliashvili Central Music School, the Tbilisi State Conservatory, and later under Kirill Gerstein and Nelson Goerner, he has won major international prizes, including awards at the Arthur Rubinstein and Géza Anda competitions. A BBC New Generation Artist and ECHO Rising Star, Gigashvili is supported by leading foundations and is a Steinway Artist.
