This album brings together works for accordion and orchestra by composers from the Baltic region, performed by accordionist Ksenija Sidorova and conductor Paavo Järvi. Longstanding artistic collaborators, the Latvian soloist and Estonian conductor recorded in Pärnu with Paavo Järvi’s festival orchestra, comprising leading musicians from major European ensembles. The programme includes Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Prophecy (2007), a technically demanding concerto exploring the figure of the visionary, and Tõnu Kõrvits’s Dances, written for Sidorova and premiered in 2024. Also featured is The Fruit of Silence by Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, arranged from an earlier choral work inspired by words of Mother Teresa.

Born 1988 in Riga, Ksenija Sidorova studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she was appointed a Fellow in 2021 and now serves as a Visiting Professor. Widely regarded as the leading ambassador of the classical accordion, her repertoire spans more than three centuries, from Bach and Piazzolla to contemporary works written specifically for her. Highlights of the 2025/26 season include performances with the Toronto and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, a return to the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich under Paavo Järvi, and a solo recital at Carnegie Hall. She continues to champion new repertoire, including premieres and recent recordings for Alpha Classics.
