This release continues the Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra and conductor Alexander Rudin’s project to rediscover the music of Nikolai Myaskovsky, a major yet still underexplored twentieth-century composer. The programme spans the composer’s career, from the early symphonic poem Alastor, portraying a Romantic hero’s striving for an unattainable ideal, to the Seventh Symphony, a mature and philosophical reflection on humanity and the world. Completing the recording is the late cantata The Kremlin by Night, an expression of Myaskovsky’s deep attachment to his homeland and its history, presented here in its first studio recording.

Alexander Rudin (born 1960 in Moscow) is a distinguished cellist and conductor, serving as Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra. He studied cello, piano, and conducting at the Gnesin Academy of Music and the Moscow Conservatory, and is a laureate of major international competitions, including the Bach Competition in Leipzig and the Tchaikovsky Competition. Rudin performs widely as a soloist and conductor with leading orchestras and at major festivals. He is also Professor at the Moscow State Conservatory, an active pedagogue, and President of the Musical Assemblies charity foundation.
