In Impacts, guitarist Gergely Szurgyi presents a deeply personal selection of works by composers who have shaped his musical development and interpretive approach. The program spans Baroque, folk-inspired, and contemporary repertoire, including Purcell, Bartók, Villa-Lobos, and Bach, alongside works by influential mentors and role models such as Dávid Pavlovits and Antal Pusztai. Szurgyi’s own arrangements and transcriptions highlight the guitar’s expressive range, from energetic dance movements to introspective works of great emotional depth. The album reflects his artistic lineage, personal influences, and long-standing relationship with these works.

Gergely Szurgyi (b. 1994) is a Hungarian guitarist who began studying the instrument at the age of nine. He trained at the Egressy Béni Conservatory under Ede Roth, completed his artistic studies at the Liszt Academy in Budapest in 2019, and earned a master’s degree from the Nuremberg University of Music in 2022. Szurgyi has received numerous awards at national and international competitions. An active chamber musician, he co-founded the Tritonus Guitar Trio, winner of the 2019 Guitar Foundation of America Ensemble Competition. His debut solo album Scordatura (2024) received multiple international accolades.
