Italian Perspectives explores the revival and development of Italian instrumental music through performances by the Bamberger Symphoniker under Riccardo Frizza. The program highlights Giuseppe Martucci’s Symphony No. 1, which affirms a symphonic tradition beyond Italian opera through its Brahmsian structure and dramatic intensity. Ottorino Respighi’s Trittico Botticelliano evokes Renaissance art with refined orchestral colour, while his orchestrations of Rachmaninoff’s Études-Tableaux transform piano works into vivid symphonic narratives. In their PENTATONE debut, Frizza and the Bamberger Symphoniker offer interpretations marked by clarity, expressive depth, and vibrant orchestral colour.
Riccardo Frizza (b. 1971) is a renowned conductor celebrated for his work with leading opera houses and festivals worldwide, including the Opéra de Paris, The Met, La Scala, and the Rossini Opera Festival.
