This album explores the musical world of the Swedish court of Queen Christina (1626–1689), renowned for its artistic ambition and opulence. Shortly before her abdication and conversion to Catholicism in 1654, Christina engaged an Italian opera company that included the Roman singer Domenico Albrici and his son Vincenzo. Already an accomplished composer, Vincenzo Albrici produced a significant body of vocal and instrumental works during his time in Sweden, later preserved in the Düben Collection at Uppsala University. From this repertoire, Manfred Cordes has curated a lyrical anthology that exemplifies the distinctive style of the Weser Renaissance ensemble.

Vincenzo Albrici (1631–1687) was an Italian composer active across several major European musical centers. Born in Rome to a family of musicians, he studied at the Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum under Giacomo Carissimi and later worked as an organist in Rome. Albrici served at the court of Queen Christina of Sweden and was subsequently associated with the English court of Charles II. From 1659 he held the post of joint vice-Kapellmeister in Dresden under Heinrich Schütz. Later appointments took him to Dresden, England, and Prague. Although many of his works were lost, 35 vocal compositions survive in the Düben Collection at Uppsala University.
