Marek Kozák presents a new album, released by Supraphon on March 20, 2026, featuring the demanding yet overlooked piano transcriptions of Sergei Rachmaninoff, composed primarily between 1921 and 1929. These works—transcriptions of pieces by Mendelssohn, Bach, and Tchaikovsky—reveal Rachmaninoff’s virtuosity, compositional ingenuity, and interpretive depth, standing alongside Liszt and Busoni in their creative transformation of the originals. Building on his acclaimed debut of neglected Czech piano concertos, Kozák delivers performances of remarkable precision, virtuosity, and expressive insight, presenting the transcriptions as dramatically rich and emotionally compelling miniatures deserving both concert-stage prominence and broader recognition.
Marek Kozák, a graduate of Professor Ivan Klánský’s piano class at HAMU – Academy of Performing Arts, is an acclaimed soloist, chamber musician, and educator at Prague’s Gymnasium and Music School. A laureate of the Géza Anda Competition (2021) and prizewinner at the Prague Spring, European Piano, and Busoni competitions, he is celebrated for his flawless technique, expressive depth, and fidelity to the score. Kozák performs with leading Czech and international orchestras, including Moravian Philharmonic, Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK, and Slovak Philharmonic, and collaborates with prominent chamber musicians such as Simona Šaturová and Jan Novák. His discography highlights neglected repertoire, including recordings of Czech piano concertos, solo works by Rachmaninoff, and chamber music spanning Haydn to contemporary composers.
