Christian Zacharias (born April 27, 1950) is a German pianist and conductor of international renown. Born in Jamshedpur, India, he was raised in Germany, where he studied at the Karlsruhe Music University before further training in Paris with Vlado Perlemuter. After early competition successes, including the Ravel Competition, he launched a global career, performing with leading orchestras such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra. From the 1990s, he developed a parallel conducting career, notably serving as principal conductor of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. Widely recorded and awarded, Zacharias is recognized for his musical insight, versatility, and enduring artistic influence.
