This recording presents a compelling musical journey through the transition from the nineteenth to the twentieth century, featuring the two violin sonatas of Gabriel Fauré—Op. 13 and Op. 108—alongside the Violin Sonata Op. 44 by Leone Sinigaglia. These works illustrate the evolution from late Romanticism toward the emerging musical language of the early twentieth century while preserving the influence of composers such as Johannes Brahms, Antonín Dvořák, and César Franck. Set against a backdrop of profound historical change—from the industrial and political transformations of the late nineteenth century through the optimism of the Belle Époque and the upheavals of two world wars—the program reflects both the artistic richness and the cultural uncertainties of a pivotal era in European history.
Marco Rizzi is widely regarded as one of Italy’s leading violinists. A prizewinner at three of the world’s most prestigious competitions—the International Tchaikovsky Competition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition, and the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis—he gained early international recognition and received the Europäischer Musikförderpreis on the recommendation of Claudio Abbado. Renowned for both standard and rarely performed repertoire, Rizzi has appeared in major concert halls across Europe with distinguished orchestras and conductors. Alongside his performing career, he is a highly respected educator, holding professorships at leading music institutions in Germany and Spain, where many of his students have achieved success in major international competitions. He is also a frequent jury member at prestigious violin competitions and performs on the historic 1743 “Baron Knoop” violin by Pietro Guarneri.
Roberto Arosio is an acclaimed Italian pianist and chamber musician who graduated with honors from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan in 1990. He made his solo debut at Milan’s Sala Verdi with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, performing works by Maurice Ravel, Ludwig van Beethoven, and George Gershwin. Internationally active as both a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Egypt, earning numerous awards in prestigious chamber music competitions. Arosio has collaborated with many distinguished instrumentalists, recorded extensively for leading labels and broadcasters, and received the Franco Gulli International Chamber Music Prize in 2005. He currently serves as a collaborative pianist at the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland in Lugano and regularly performs with major orchestras, including the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, and the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
