This live recording features Belgian cellist Alexandre Debrus in Antonín Dvořák’s celebrated Cello Concerto, captured in performance to preserve the immediacy and expressive intensity of the concert experience. Recognised as one of the notable musical figures of his generation, Debrus delivers an interpretation marked by emotional depth, technical command, and lyrical sensitivity. His playing highlights the concerto’s dramatic contrasts, virtuosic demands, and expansive melodic writing, while maintaining a strong sense of narrative coherence. The performance seeks to convey both the work’s Romantic grandeur and its intimate expressivity, offering a vivid and compelling reading of one of the cello repertoire’s most significant masterpieces.
Alexandre Debrus (b. 1976) is a Belgian cellist born into a family of musicians, who began studying violin and cello at an early age and performed in orchestral environments from childhood. A recipient of numerous awards and distinctions, he has built an international career as a soloist and chamber musician, performing widely across Europe and beyond.
