Sharing his birth year with Bach and Handel, Domenico Scarlatti remains one of the few Baroque composers whose keyboard music has enjoyed continuous fame and a permanent place in the repertoire since his lifetime. Although he composed over 500 keyboard sonatas, his work is celebrated for its remarkable variety and expressive breadth. Scarlatti’s unique ability to span diverse styles and moods—ranging from deeply serious pieces to light, humorous works, and from courtly dances to vibrant street songs—defines his artistic hallmark. In this album, Asako Ogawa presents a beautifully varied and uplifting selection of these masterpiece sonatas, all captured in superb sound quality.

Based in London, Japanese-born keyboardist Asako Ogawa is an acclaimed soloist, collaborative performer, and educator specializing in historical and modern instruments. A distinguished alumna of Tokyo's Ochanomizu University and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama—where she later coached Baroque repertoire—Ogawa has won numerous accolades, including the MBF Sir Henry Richardson Accompanists’ Award. She performs globally at major venues, co-founded the Baroque ensemble Il Capo, and maintains a prominent presence on international broadcasts. Her extensive discography features critically acclaimed recordings of Bach and Handel, cementing her reputation as an exceptionally versatile master of early and classical keyboard literature.
