Ottorino Respighi is best known for his richly orchestrated symphonic poems, particularly the Roman Trilogy (Fountains of Rome, Pines of Rome, and Roman Festivals), which showcase his vivid orchestral imagination. However, his chamber music reveals a more intimate dimension of his artistry, shaped by his training in Bologna and his studies with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov in Russia. Early works such as the Piano Quintet (1902) reflect Romantic influences, especially from Brahms, while demonstrating his command of large-scale form and expressive lyricism. The Double Quartet (1904) highlights his contrapuntal skill and interest in spatial dialogue between ensembles. In his later period, works like the Doric Quartet (1924) show a shift toward modal writing, clarity, and neoclassical restraint, reflecting his engagement with ancient musical styles and a more austere, timeless aesthetic.

The Da Vinci Ensemble is an Italian chamber group dedicated to promoting the country’s chamber music heritage internationally. Recognized for its elegance, energy, and expressive depth, the ensemble has received critical praise, including commendation from Amadeus magazine for its interpretation of the Martucci Trio. Its members maintain active international careers, performing at major venues such as the Vienna Musikverein, the Paris Philharmonie, and La Scala in Milan. The ensemble’s debut recording, praised by Rai Radio 3, marked the beginning of its collaboration with Brilliant Classics. Their artistic focus includes projects centered on Italian composers such as Franco Alfano and Ottorino Respighi, reflecting a commitment to both historical repertoire and wider appreciation of Italy’s chamber music tradition.
