This release features acclaimed pianist Lukas Geniušas exploring the romantic concept of the musical fantasy alongside the Sinfonieorchester St. Gallen under conductor Modestas Pitrėnas. The album presents a rare pairing of two nineteenth-century masterpieces: Franz Liszt’s 1851 transcription for piano and orchestra of Franz Schubert’s groundbreaking, monothematic "Wanderer" Fantasy (1822), and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s virtuoso Concert Fantasy (1884). Through these major works, separated by over six decades, Geniušas illuminates the evolution of the form—from Schubert and Liszt’s continuous, unified structural journeys to Tchaikovsky's traditional emphasis on instrumental brilliance and classical, large-scale virtuosity.

Russian-Lithuanian pianist Lukas Geniušas (b. 1990) is acclaimed for his brilliance and depth, earning international recognition as one of the most compelling pianists of his generation. He performs at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw, and the Moscow Conservatory, and appears at major festivals like La Roque-d’Anthéron and the Ruhr Piano Festival. Geniušas collaborates with leading orchestras including the NHK Symphony, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, and Toronto Symphony, under conductors like Gergiev, Pletnev, and Dutoit. A graduate of the Chopin Music College in Moscow, he won silver medals at both the 2015 Tchaikovsky and 2010 Chopin Competitions. Since 2015, he has supported the Toronto-based “Looking at the Stars” initiative, bringing live classical music to underserved communities.
