Celebrating 55 years since their debut, piano duo Katia and Marielle Labèque have released "55," a landmark three-CD boxed set reflecting their genre-defying career. The collection features 55 tracks, blending 30 archival recordings from 1970 through 2024 with 25 new 2025 recordings, including several world premieres. Spanning classical, jazz, and minimalism, the compilation places a special emphasis on female representation, showcasing 12 works by eight women composers. Beyond the music, this comprehensive retrospective serves as a visual and editorial chronicle, complete with photographs by Brigitte Lacombe and an essay by musicologist Renaud Machard documenting the sisters' extraordinary artistic legacy.
Renowned for their synchronized energy, sibling pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque have built an illustrious career since rising to international fame with their gold-record rendition of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. They regularly perform at prestigious global venues and festivals, collaborating with world-class orchestras, Baroque ensembles, and elite conductors. Champions of contemporary music, the duo has premiered works by Philip Glass, Bryce Dessner, and Nico Muhly. Beyond their extensive live tours, they manage their own KML Recordings label—now partnered with Deutsche Grammophon—and spearhead innovative cross-genre projects, including the Dream House Quartet and collaborations with contemporary artists.
