The album released for Audite’s 30th anniversary season reflects on collective responsibility toward humanity and the environment, focusing on themes of climate change, biodiversity loss, and humanity’s relationship with nature. The program consists of six contemporary a cappella works performed by a choir closely connected to the composers themselves, emphasizing collaboration and shared artistic identity. Matthew Whittall’s The Geography of Hope draws on environmental writings by Wallace Stegner, offering an optimistic perspective on wilderness preservation. Anna Huuskonen’s Consider the Sea contrasts literary references from Moby-Dick with contemporary concerns about ocean pollution. Markku Klami’s into the deep peace and Jani Sivén’s The Earth does not belong to man explore reverence for nature through texts by John Muir and Native American leaders. Additional works by Finn Shields and Alex Freeman further expand the program’s ecological and emotional scope, combining poetic texts with evocative choral writing to reflect on resilience, environmental fragility, and hope.
