Developed from a collaboration between recorder virtuoso Erik Bosgraaf and ensemble filoBarocco at the Göttingen International Handel Festival, Folk Baroque explores the intersection of Georg Philipp Telemann’s repertoire and Central European dance traditions. Grounded in the historical Rostock Manuscript, the program embraces Telemann’s historic fascination with Polish and Hanna folk styles. Because reconstructing 18th-century music requires artistic re-composition, the musicians draw on living folk traditions, improvisation, and experimental techniques to fill historical gaps. The resulting performance transcends a mere historical artifact, delivering a vibrant, emotionally immediate, and contemporary experience rooted in timeless human passion and rhythmic vitality.
