In 1974, Nimbus underwent a dynamic transition by relocating from Birmingham to Monmouth and establishing a small LP factory, leading to its first releases in 1977. Among these was pianist Martin Jones’s 1973 recording of Rachmaninoff. Despite enduring silences and early setbacks, the creative partnership between Nimbus and Jones flourished. Following a brief hiatus, Jones returned in the late 1970s to resume recording Mendelssohn's repertoire and delivered a Busoni recital in 1980. Their collaboration culminated in the landmark 1988 release of the complete Mendelssohn project on six CDs, establishing Jones as one of the studio's most prolific and regular recording artists.

A distinguished British solo pianist, Martin Jones (born 1940) gained international prominence upon winning the Dame Myra Hess Award, followed by debuts at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and New York’s Carnegie Hall. A prolific recording artist, particularly for Nimbus Records, his extensive discography includes the complete solo piano works of Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Debussy, alongside championed British repertoire. Jones has performed globally as a concerto soloist with premier orchestras across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. His vast performance repertoire ranges from standard masterworks to rare concertos—such as Busoni’s piano concerto—and diverse international solo recitals.
