Opera Rara has successfully concluded its groundbreaking Donizetti Song Project with Volume 8, completing a series of eight recital albums dedicated to the Italian bel canto composer's nearly 200 solo songs. Curated by musicologist Roger Parker and led by Artistic Director Carlo Rizzi, this monumental initiative elevates Gaetano Donizetti as a seminal figure in 19th-century song repertoire while restoring prominence to the Italian vocal school. The final volumes, including acclaimed performances by baritone Nicola Alaimo, explore rare Italian and French works for the bass-baritone register, finalizing a major historical restoration of previously unknown musical treasures.

Italian baritone Nicola Alaimo is an acclaimed operatic performer who trained under Vittoria Mazzoni and his uncle, Simone Alaimo. Since winning the Giuseppe Di Stefano Competition and debuting in 1997, he has performed at prestigious venues worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and the Paris Opera. Recognized with the 2016 Abbiati Prize, Alaimo is highly regarded for his versatility in bel canto and Verdi repertoires, regularly singing prominent roles such as Falstaff, Dulcamara, and Figaro. His international engagements extend through the 2026–2027 season with high-profile appearances in New York, Vienna, and Madrid.

Carlo Rizzi is a distinguished conductor renowned for his extensive expertise in both mainstream and rare operatic and symphonic repertoires. Since his 1982 debut, he has conducted over one hundred operatic works globally. He served two terms as Music Director of the Welsh National Opera, where he is now Conductor Emeritus, and has been the Music Director of Opera Rara since 2019, leading the revival and recording of forgotten masterpieces. A frequent guest at prestigious venues like the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and the Paris Opera, Rizzi continues to conduct major international productions across Europe and the United States.
