This recording showcases a diverse programme of Johann Sebastian Bach's free organ compositions, expertly performed on the historic Wiegleb organ in Ansbach. The collection spans a rich variety of musical styles, encompassing structural preludes, fugues, fantasias, and multifaceted chorales. These intricate instrumental pieces are deeply comparable to vocal sacred works, serving as a profound sonic mirror that simultaneously reflects both the composer’s rich spiritual life and his complex, speculative musical research.

Acclaimed Japanese organist Kei Koito is widely recognized as a premier interpreter of Baroque organ music, specializing in J.S. Bach and his predecessors. Her expressive performances blend rigorous musicological research into historical performance practice with intuitive artistry. Educated in Tokyo, Geneva, and Toulouse, she studied early music with Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini and Reinhard Goebel. Koito maintains an illustrious international concert career, frequently collaborating with elite ensembles like Musica Antiqua Köln. An award-winning recording artist for Sony/DHM and Claves Records, she is also a sought-after pedagogue, serving as Professor of Organ at the Lausanne University of Music and Founder-Artistic Director of the Lausanne Bach Festival.
