David Rowland is an accomplished organist, conductor, and musicologist whose career spans over four decades. After graduating from Cambridge in 1978, he won the prestigious St Alban’s International Organ Competition in 1981 and joined Christ’s College Cambridge as Director of Music in 1984. A versatile performer on the harpsichord, organ, and early piano, Rowland has recorded and performed extensively across the United Kingdom. He joined the Open University faculty in 1989, serving as Dean of the Arts Faculty before retiring in 2024. Today, his research focuses heavily on early piano performance practice and composer Muzio Clementi.
