_____________________

Hungarian pianist Annie Fischer (1914–1995) was renowned for her intense, poetic interpretations of Mozart and early Romantic repertoire. A prodigy who debuted at age eight and won the 1933 Franz Liszt International Competition, her career was briefly paused during World War II. Fischer eschewed modern fame, preferring European performances over American tours and rarely recording, making her select discs highly prized. While critics occasionally noted technical imperfections later in her career, her profound musical insight and expressive rhythmic freedom garnered immense praise. A three-time recipient of Hungary's Kossuth Prize, Fischer remains celebrated for her deeply impactful artistry.
