This album showcases the stylistic evolution of Argentine composer Luis Jorge González (1936–2016), spanning his journey from early romantic nationalism and mid-career avant-garde experimentation to late-period compositions centered on regional folk traditions and the Argentine tango. Released by Meridian Records, the recording features double bassist Paul Erhard and pianist Alejandro Cremaschi—longtime friends and collaborators of the composer from the University of Colorado Boulder. The program spans González’s career, opening with transcription arrangements of his 1960s love songs Cantares de Peregrino, followed by tango-infused works like Arioso and Chacona Tangante, his early rural-inspired Zamba, and concluding with the ambitious, virtuosic Sonata del Plata.

Paul Erhard is Professor Emeritus at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he taught double bass for 37 years. Since 1986, he has actively championed the works of composer Luis Jorge González, performing alongside him as the Erhard/González Duo across the United States and Europe. Known for his vocally inspired, expressive playing style, Erhard’s diverse performance background spans classical double bass, jazz, improvised Indian raga, and cross-genre solo improvisations. Additionally, through his "Time Art Space Art" initiative, he collaborates across disciplines with visual artists, dancers, poets, and filmmakers. Erhard performs on a double bass crafted by Christopher Threlkeld.

Alejandro Cremaschi is Professor of Piano at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he studied under Dora De Marinis, Nancy Roldan, and Lydia Artymiw. Renowned for his "pristine" and "passionate" playing, he is an active performer, researcher, and champion of Latin American music. Between 2004 and 2016, Cremaschi collaborated closely with composer Luis Jorge González, premiering numerous solo and chamber works that were subsequently released across three albums by Meridian Records. Beyond his recordings of Argentine masters like Guastavino and Gianneo, Cremaschi published a acclaimed critical edition and recording of Alberto Ginastera’s Doce Preludios Americanos through Carl Fischer in 2016.
