Scherzi Musicali's latest recording offers a unique comparative presentation of Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s miniature drama, Actéon. Based on the mythological hunter transformed by Diana, the work highlights Charpentier’s dramatic and expressive mastery using a delicate ensemble of singers, violins, flutes, and basso continuo. The release captures both of the composer's distinct scoring variations: the original version, initially tailored for a countertenor, alongside Charpentier's subsequent revision that transposed the title role for a treble voice. Notably, this album marks the world-premiere recording of the second version, providing an invaluable historical perspective for early music enthusiasts.

Founded over fifteen years ago by artistic director Nicolas Achten, the Belgian collective Scherzi Musicali is a leading early music ensemble dedicated to seventeenth- and eighteenth-century repertoires. Ranging from three to over forty musicians, the group is celebrated for its rigorous philological research and a distinct sound identity built around the interaction between singing and basso continuo. Scherzi Musicali performs at major festivals across Europe and maintains a strong educational commitment. Their extensive, award-winning discography features thirteen recordings—including eleven world premieres—for prominent labels like Ricercar.
