Recorded live at the Philharmonie de Paris, this new B•Records release features conductor Léo Warynski and the vocal ensemble Les Métaboles exploring the hidden textures of Maurice Ravel’s masterpieces through innovative choral arrangements. The monograph highlights four distinguished contemporary musicians, Clytus Gottwald, Thierry Machuel, Gérard Pesson, and Thibault Perrin, whose creative transcriptions offer a fresh perspective on iconic works, including the first-ever choral adaptations of Boléro and Pavane pour une infante défunte. Through these inventive vocal reinterpretations, the recording offers a compelling reexamination of Ravel’s enduring orchestral and instrumental repertoire.

Founded in 2010 by artistic director Léo Warynski, Les Métaboles is an acclaimed French professional vocal ensemble celebrated for its versatility, vocal precision, and rich tonal homogeneity. Taking its name from a work by Henri Dutilleux, the choir excels in a cappella literature while regularly partnering with prestigious orchestras like the Ensemble intercontemporain. Les Métaboles frequently performs at major international venues—including the Philharmonie de Paris and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie—and champions contemporary music through new commissions and educational initiatives like the ARCO academy. Their critically acclaimed discography includes Victoires de la Musique-nominated projects, cementing their standing among France's premier choral ensembles.
