Scheduled for release on July 24, 2026, the recording features the romantic Eichendorff Liederkreis, Op. 39 from Schumann’s 1840 "Year of Song," three introspective Gesänge des Harfners (Op. 98a) from 1849, and his austere final cycle, Gedichte der Königin Maria Stuart (Op. 135) from 1852. Adding to Goerne’s celebrated DG catalogue alongside collaborations with Jan Lisiecki, Seong-Jin Cho, and Daniil Trifonov, Zwielicht highlights Schumann's evolving art-song style through a journey from Romantic landscape portraiture to spare, deeply tragic musical soliloquies.

Acclaimed German baritone Matthias Goerne (b. 1967) is an internationally sought-after vocalist who studied under legends such as Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau before performing at the world's most prestigious opera houses and concert halls. Celebrated for a wide-ranging repertoire—spanning iconic Wagnerian and 20th-century opera roles to vast Lieder cycles—his prestigious career includes four Grammy nominations and accolades such as the Gramophone Award and Diapason d’Or. In addition to serving as Artist in Residence for the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra's 145th anniversary season, Goerne maintains an active global itinerary of recitals and orchestral performances alongside a critically acclaimed discography for major classical labels.

Born 1958 in La Spezia, Italy, Markus Hinterhäuser is a distinguished pianist, contemporary music champion, and former artistic leader who studied at the Vienna University of Music and the Salzburg Mozarteum. As a performer, he has appeared in world-class venues like Carnegie Hall and La Scala, earning particular acclaim for his Lieder collaborations with Brigitte Fassbaender and Matthias Goerne, as well as his recordings of modern masters such as Schoenberg, Berg, and Feldman. Complementing his concert career, Hinterhäuser achieved international renown as a cultural manager, directing the Wiener Festwochen and shaping the Salzburg Festival across decades of transformative leadership—a tenure marked by critically acclaimed opera productions and prestigious honors like France's Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, which concluded with his departure in March 2026.
