Filled with the Light, featuring soprano Jamie-Rose Guarrine, celebrates the rich artistic heritage of New England through the lens of its local composers and poets. Joined by pianist Martha Fischer and cellist Karl Knapp, Guarrine explores a evocative program centered around a shared reverence for nature, language, and regional culture. Highlighted by the first commercial recording of Alice Parker’s Three Mountain Hymns, the album also features Gwyneth Walker’s Though Love Be a Day and Scott Gendel’s song cycle A Friendly Visit. Ultimately, these performances trace a cohesive musical path through the unique geography, climate, and literary imagination of the American Northeast.
Acclaimed for her thrilling, agile voice and profound dramatic skill, soprano Jamie-Rose Guarrine has performed extensively with major institutions like the Los Angeles Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica. Renowned for signature roles such as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, her diverse repertoire spans from Baroque masterworks to contemporary operas by Philip Glass and Mark Adamo. An active concert soloist and educator, Guarrine holds a D.M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and currently serves as Professor of Voice at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
