Violinist and violist Christine Wu, winner of the Outhere Music Recording Prize at the inaugural Berlin Prize for Young Artists, explores the intricate relationship between time and memory in her new Channel Classics album, Recollection(s). Performing on both instruments, Wu utilizes the violin to interpret Saariaho’s Nocturne, Bach’s Chaconne, and Jeffrey Mumford’s eight musings. Revisiting memories. Shifting to the viola, she delivers evocative renditions of Joan Tower’s Wild Purple, Weinberg’s Viola Sonata No. 2, Op. 123, and Stravinsky’s Elegy. Through recurring motifs and reimagined musical fragments, Wu deftly addresses the beautifully fragmented and transcendent nature of recollection.

Violinist and violist Christine Wu is an acclaimed hybrid artist recognized for her bold sound, technical facility, and leadership. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Cleveland Institute of Music, and Manhattan School of Music, she has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Dallas Symphony and Sendai Philharmonic. Notably, she became a rare dual-instrument prizewinner at the Aspen Music Festival, winning its low strings concerto competition on viola. Dedicated to multi-ethnic and multi-cultural advocacy, Wu actively commissions and premieres works by diverse and contemporary composers. She is also an avid chamber musician, founding member of the Clarion Trio, and an experienced orchestral concertmaster.
