In his solo album, Stephen Hough’s Piano Postcards, the celebrated itinerant pianist curates a collection of musical messages gathered from his lifetime of international travel. Hough transforms beloved traditional songs and melodies from countries such as Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, and Spain, re-imagining them into witty and inventive arrangements for the solo piano. Functioning as a creative homage to the diverse cultures and nations he has connected with throughout his performing career, these deftly crafted miniature pieces serve as evocative, sophisticated musical postcards sent home for the ultimate aesthetic enjoyment of his listeners.

Stephen Hough (born 1961) is a celebrated classical pianist, composer, and writer, recognized by The Economist as one of twenty living polymaths. Since winning the 1983 Naumburg Competition, he has performed globally with elite orchestras and made 29 appearances at the BBC Proms. His extensive discography of over 60 albums has earned multiple Grammy nominations and eight Gramophone Awards. As a composer published by Josef Weinberger, Hough accepts major international commissions, while his literary career includes four published books and extensive journalism. The first classical performer to receive a MacArthur Fellowship, Hough was knighted in 2022 and serves on the faculty at The Juilliard School.
