_____________________

Alessandro Rolla (1757–1841) was an influential Italian violin and viola virtuoso, composer, and pedagogue best known for mentoring Niccolò Paganini and pioneering advanced string techniques. During a distinguished career that included leading the Ducale Orchestra in Parma and directing Milan’s La Scala Orchestra for over three decades, Rolla championed the works of Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini, and Bellini. Musically, his compositions bridge Classical elegance with early Romantic intensity. Performed by premier Italian clarinetist Luigi Magistrelli and an ensemble of soloists, this recording showcases Rolla’s charming chamber repertoire, featuring a expressive lineup of duets, a sextet, and a basset horn concerto.

Luigi Magistrelli, born in 1961 near Milan, is an accomplished Italian clarinetist and Professor of Clarinet at the Conservatory of Milan. He studied under Primo Borali and attended masterclasses with D. Kloecker, K. Leister, and Giuseppe Garbarino. Magistrelli has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe and Asia and serves as principal clarinetist with Milano Classica and ArteViva orchestras. He has recorded extensively, including collaborations with Karl Leister and Dieter Kloecker, and has edited rare clarinet works. A passionate educator and scholar, he has lectured internationally and owns a unique collection of 260 clarinets.
