Esa-Pekka Salonen (b. 1958) is an internationally acclaimed Finnish conductor and composer celebrated for his visionary leadership, innovative programming, and prolific creative output. Educated at Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy, he spearheaded the transformation of the Los Angeles Philharmonic into an industry leader before serving as Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony; in 2027, he assumes the role of Principal Conductor of the Orchestre de Paris. Recipient of the Polar Music Prize, the Grawemeyer Award, and an honorary KBE, Salonen’s career bridges high-profile global guest conducting, extensive contemporary music curation, and an award-winning discography of both standard repertoire and his own acclaimed orchestral works.
