The album brings together works by Charles Ives, John Harbison, and Jennifer Higdon, celebrating a century of distinctly American musical curiosity, individuality, and narrative depth. Praise-worthy for their "intelligence and imagination," Trio Azura, comprising violinist Duncan McDougall, cellist Yejin Hong, and pianist Yanfeng (Tony) Bai, serves as Colburn's Ensemble-in-Residence. As Grand Prize winners of the 2024 Fischoff Competition, the trio delivers compelling performances that capture the adventurous spirit and singular voices of these iconoclastic American composers.

Formed in 2022 at the Colburn School, Trio Azura has quickly established itself as one of today's most promising young piano trios, praised by Gramophone for its intelligence and profound emotion. Comprising violinist Duncan McDougall, cellist Yejin Hong, and pianist Yanfeng (Tony) Bai, the ensemble serves as Ensemble-in-Residence at Colburn and winner of the 2025 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions. Grand Prize winners of the 2024 Fischoff Competition, the trio maintains a rigorous international performance and outreach schedule, ranging from Midwest tours and UAE residencies to major festival appearances across Europe, Australia, and the United States.
