To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s death in 2027, composer Johannes X. Schachtner and the presenter devised a concept to reframe Beethoven’s enduring, culturally resonant legacy. By juxtaposing his historically revolutionary masterworks with entirely new musical compositions, the project seeks to revitalize how modern audiences experience his output. Offering a fresh analytical and artistic perspective, this pairing aims to uncover new dimensions within Beethoven’s familiar repertoire by placing it in direct dialogue with contemporary creations.

German composer and conductor Johannes X. Schachtner (born 1985) trained at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts under Bruno Weil and Hans-Jürgen von Bose. As a conductor, he has led prestigious ensembles, including the Munich Symphony Orchestra and Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt, and served on the artistic board of the A-DEvantgarde Festival. His notable compositional commissions include a full-length music theatre work for the Bavarian Theatre Academy and Artefakt for the NDR Radiophilharmonie's 75th anniversary. A recipient of the 2014 Bavarian Art Promotion Prize, Schachtner has taught at top institutions and holds leadership roles with GEMA and the German Composers' Association.

Formed in 2012 by violinist Johanna Schubert, cellist Merle Geißler, and pianist Philipp Kirchner, the Amelio Trio has built an international career defined by seamless interplay and stylistic versatility. Recognized as an ECHO Rising Star for the 2026/27 season, the ensemble has earned top honors at major competitions, including the 2023 ARD International Music Competition and the 2024 German Music Competition. The trio performs across major European halls, such as Wigmore Hall and the Elbphilharmonie, while maintaining a dedicated commitment to contemporary music through commissions and premieres. Their discography includes their 2025 debut Time in Flux and a forthcoming 2026 release on Hänssler Classic.
