Born in Stockholm in 1966, composer, pianist, and sound artist Matti Bye has spent over three decades crafting a distinctive musical language at the intersection of improvisation, contemporary composition, film scores, and experimental sound art. Centered around the piano, tape loops, and analog electronics, his tactile and cinematic approach was deeply shaped by his decades as a silent film musician at the Swedish Film Institute. Bye’s extensive portfolio includes scores for acclaimed films such as Un Poeta and Tove, as well as solo and ensemble recordings across labels like Denovali and Neue Meister. A multi-award-winning artist, including two Guldbagge Awards, he regularly performs at major international venues and festivals worldwide.
