French soprano Sandrine Piau and pianist David Kadouch reunite for Contes, the companion album to their acclaimed Voyage intime. The project explores the darker, psychological dimensions of childhood, folk tales, and ancestral legends. Rather than presenting benign children's stories, the duo curates a program designed to confront secret, atavistic fears through dynamic musical narrative. Their expansive selection spans major art song composers, including Debussy, Ravel, Wolf, Strauss, and Poulenc, alongside lesser-known female composers such as Jeanne Bernard, Wally Karnevo, Louise Didier, and Ilse Weber. Through this diverse repertoire, Piau and Kadouch combine their signature artistry to offer an evocative, emotionally charged exploration of myth and memory.

Sandrine Piau (b. 1965) began her career as a baroque vocalist and has since become an internationally acclaimed soprano admired for her stylistic versatility. She performs regularly at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Elbphilharmonie, the Tonhalle, and the Philharmonie de Paris, collaborating with leading conductors including William Christie, René Jacobs, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and Klaus Mäkelä. Her operatic roles span Handel, Mozart, Debussy, Prokofiev, and contemporary works, with appearances at the Paris Opera, Salzburg Festival, La Monnaie, Aix-en-Provence, Berlin, and La Scala. With an extensive, award-winning discography on Alpha Classics, she has also been honored as Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (2006) and Opera Artist of the Year (2009).

David Kadouch is a French pianist and chamber musician known for his wide-ranging repertoire and early start on the international stage. At 13, he performed in New York with Itzhak Perlman and soon won the Young Talents Competition in Milan. A graduate of the Conservatoire de Paris and Madrid’s Reina Sofía School, he studied under masters like Dmitri Bashkirov and took masterclasses with Barenboim and Pollini. Kadouch has earned prizes in major competitions and was named Young Artist of the Year by both Victoires de la Musique (2010) and ICMA (2011). He champions both classical staples and contemporary works in solo and chamber settings.
