Much like the famed Dinu Lipatti, Polish pianist Karol Szreter (1898–1933) suffered a tragically abbreviated life, dying of cancer in his mid-thirties just as his international stature was solidifying. A distinguished pupil of Egon Petri within the Busoni tradition, Szreter built an influential career across Central Europe that is preserved through key early recordings. Following an early acoustic sample for VOX, this collection highlights his main output for Parlophon and Odeon. Landmark features include the historic first electrical recording of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, three sonatas, and five virtuosic Strauss transcriptions that brilliantly demonstrate his phenomenal technique.
