The Drottningholm Barockensemble presents a vivid survey of 18th-century Swedish concertos and their European foundations. At the center of the recording is Johan Helmich Roman, widely recognized as the "father of Swedish music," featured through his festive Overture to Festa musicale and a graceful Flute Concerto in G major. The program also highlights elegant oboe and harpsichord concertos by Johan Agrell, alongside Hinrich Philip Johnsen’s spirited Horn Concerto in E-flat major. Performed on period instruments by the ensemble's own soloists, this collection brings a captivating and lesser-known historical repertoire to radiant life.

Formed in 1971, the Drottningholm Barockensemble is a renowned Swedish period-instrument ensemble led by concertmasters Nils-Erik Sparf and Stefan Lindvall. The group has earned international acclaim, touring extensively across North America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Throughout its history, the ensemble has collaborated with leading conductors, vocalists, and choirs, including Christopher Hogwood, Emmanuelle Haïm, Anne Sofie von Otter, and Eric Ericson’s Chamber Choir. With a discography of approximately 60 recordings across prominent labels such as BIS, EMI, Musica Sveciae, and Naxos, the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble remains a celebrated interpreter of historical repertoire by Bach, Handel, Telemann, and Roman.
