Wylde Britain is an innovative 2026 solo concert program devised, presented, and performed by internationally acclaimed bassoonist Laurence Perkins. Taking audiences on a immersive one-hour musical journey from Shetland to Land’s End, the show combines live solo bassoon performances with natural soundscapes, spectacular musical settings, and high-quality audio. The production features recorded British stories and legends narrated by leading actors and television presenters. Drawing on Perkins's celebrated career as a Recording Artist for Hyperion and Signum Classics, Wylde Britain offers a compelling fusion of classical music, folklore, and evocative sound design.

Laurence Perkins is a distinguished British bassoonist and educator whose career spans over four decades. After studying at the Royal Northern College of Music under Charles Cracknell, Perkins served as principal bassoonist of the Manchester Camerata from 1974 to 2017, touring internationally and performing at prestigious venues such as the BBC Proms. As an acclaimed soloist, his recordings for Hyperion—including Mozart concertos with the English Chamber Orchestra and his 2018 release featuring Beethoven and Strauss—have earned critical acclaim. Perkins continues to advocate for the bassoon through solo performances, chamber collaborations, and teaching positions at leading UK universities and summer festivals.
