Métier presents pianist Sinae Lee’s recording of the 24 Preludes, Op. 102 by York Bowen (1884–1961), a virtuoso often called the "English Rachmaninoff." Highly praised by Saint-Saëns, Bowen maintained a deeply Romantic aesthetic rich in lyricism and technical complexity. Unlike Chopin's traditional key sequence, Bowen's masterwork ascends chromatically through all major and minor keys from C major to B minor. Dedicated to Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji, the cycle features distinct characters and technical demands across each piece. Lee, seeking to reignite interest in Bowen’s underperformed piano repertoire, personally titled each prelude to aid her expressive characterization.
South Korean pianist Sinae Lee is a prominent soloist, chamber musician, and lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS). Following studies at Seoul National University, she earned her Master of Music with distinction at RCS under a full scholarship, accumulating numerous UK competition awards. Lee made her critically acclaimed recording debut in 2006 with Szymanowski’s complete solo piano works for Divine Art, followed by Liszt’s Années de Pèlerinage for Nimbus Alliance. Alongside her performance career featuring major orchestra concertos and contemporary music premieres, she serves as an international competition juror and doctoral supervisor in Glasgow.
