One of the most innovative and groundbreaking musicians on the European accordion scene, João Barradas effortlessly bridges the worlds of classical music and improvisation. His new album, Unfolding, traces its origins to a commissioned Accordion Concerto by Luís Tinoco, one of Portugal’s foremost 21st-century composers. Inspired by this collaboration, they embarked on a creative journey to reimagine several of Tinoco’s works through the expressive capabilities of the accordion. The album features striking reinterpretations, including pieces for solo accordion (Mind the Gap; Dreaming of the Unseen) and accordion with string quartet (Ends Meet), culminating in the stirring live recording of the new Accordion Concerto.
